Brkini is a chain of hills in southern Slovena. Troughout the history people in Brkini depended on traditional farming. But with the industrialisation in 60's and 70's many young people left villages leaving their elderly parents behind. Most of them died in 90's or moved out themselves and these houses were left empty.
Some of the houses were rebuilt by children who then returned, but in most cases inheritance is a complex process with many heirs who will rather leave the house to decay then settle legal affairs among each other.
This project documents such houses and the remains of the rural life that is no more.
